Holy Hikes

Holy Hikes - Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh

Holy Hikes® is an eco-Ministry network committed to rebuilding Communion between all of God’s Creation. It was started as a ministry of All Saints Episcopal Church in San Leandro, California several years ago. Through Holy Hikes we worship God in the beauty of God’s creation, in what John Muir called God’s “first temples.”

In 2024, St. Francis, Somerset and St. Michael’s in the Valley, Ligonier piloted Holy Hikes as a new ministry for the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh. From late spring to early fall, we led six hikes at parks and nature reserves in Westmoreland and Somerset Counties, including Laurel Summit State Park and Kimberly Run Nature Reserve.

Through Holy Hikes, we have the opportunity to build a New Episcopal Community, which is part of a new endeavor of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh for existing congregations to build relationships and community with people beyond the four walls of our church buildings. Watch this video from the Diocese to learn more.

For next season, we plan to expand the ministry to more areas of the Diocese, and we look forward to partnering with other congregations in hosting hikes. Watch here and on our Facebook page for more details about next season’s hikes early in 2025.
